Thursday 10th March – ski ***** Lelex – sunny (42.26 miles, 34.81 kts )
Good night in the van being milder only getting down to -2, so diesel heater and engine on for a bit to top up the battery and the van was nice and toasty for a cuppa and finish my book:) We were suited and booted at 10ish, then paid the 57 Euros for a full days pass we were heading up the telecabine in brilliant sunshine!
The run down to the six seater was great and the view when we reached the top was again stunning with hundreds of snow covered trees making a great picture:) I decided to video our run down the Anemones/Lys green which meant taking my glove off which meant frostbite at the bottom:( but what fun we had! Scaring a few other skiers on the way and getting a bit too close to Mags at times! But we made it in one piece surprisingly as I was skiing backwards a few times – not a great idea!!!
Next time at the top of the six seater we headed down to Crozet spotting several snow kiters enjoying a huge area over to the left set aside for them with no lifts in the way – Our son Rob would love this as he is keen on this sport and is off to Norway later this year to do it:) There were only a few runs into Crozet so we soon skied them including a long run off-piste for me, which I survived without failing too many times! We then spent an hour or two trying to do all the runs in the resort while at the same time looking for a picnic table for lunch, the only one we spotted was at Monthoisey (1680) overlooking Lac Leman but it was a bit exposed and breezy so in the end just stopped on the side of the piste on the lovely red – Asters a real roller coaster run! And had our rolls and chocolate bars.
Then it was back to the skiing but by this time my poor old legs were getting shot to pieces so it was time to head to our favourite restaurant for yet another hot chocolate but not before I had my best run of the day down the Stade de Slalom red which had only just opened being closed all day as the racers practice for an event which we think might start tomorrow as the winner’s stage was erected this afternoon – it might give us something to watch if we venture up tomorrow?
After a short rest and hot drink including another chapter of our book and with the restaurant being packed up around us it was time to head to the bottom stopping off at the Sherpa for a baguette, only our second since arriving here in France. On the way back to the van I couldn’t resist having ago on the little run by the carpark! I slalomed around the cones out for the kids but then had to wait at the bottom of the button as a large group of kids were in line all throwing snow balls at the lift attendant:)
Back at the van it was struggle out of my boots with shot to pieces’ legs, put the skis in the top box before a welcome cuppa with lovely bread and jam not to mention a huge helping of butter!
A top day in the mountains in yet another quiet, cheap resort with stunning views too and out nearly 7 hours!!!!
